A Dream Come True

When  Michael S. said he wanted to ride a bicycle, it broke his parents hearts.

Due to a chromosomal abnormality, the nine year old has low muscle tone, developmental delays, and other deficits that affect his balance and coordination.  Although Richard and Kathleen  searched far and wide for a suitable bike, they couldn’t find one that met his needs.

When they read about the Junior Trike, manufactured by Worksman Cycles of New York, in one  of H.A.L.O.’s Family Circle newsletters they all got excited.

The staff at Fit to Ride, a specialty store in Somers CT, measured Michael and fully outfitted him for his custom trike.  He even got to pick his color.  When the bike came in, one of the managers spent most of a Saturday afternoon teaching him to ride.

“We can’t begin to tell you what H.A.L.O.’s gift has meant to Michael,” said his father. “He’s on it literally every day.  As soon as Dad comes home from work—out we go!”

Michael was a bit frightened, at first, but now that he has now mastered riding,  the whole neighborhood is thrilled for him.

H.A.L.O.’s gift provides great exercise, but even more, it allows Michael to join in an activity with his friends, just like any other kid.

“It has boosted his self-confidence, and touched us to the core.  Thank you H.A.L.O. for making this dream come true for our son!” Richard said.
