H.A.L.O. CAN

H.A.L.O. has established the Children’s Advisory Network (CAN) to help struggling families deal with the complicated maze of regulations governing care of people with disabilities in Massachusetts.

The goal of H.A.L.O. CAN is to assist families with limited resources to:
  • Understand and file forms at appropriate times
  • Obtain legal advice in matters affecting their child’s care
  • Provide emergency legal services when necessary
Disability law and advocacy is very specialized.

One of the most important issues for families is the need to formally designate a legal guardian BEFORE their child reaches the age of majority in order to avoid interruption of necessary benefits and services such as medications.  Parents are not automatically considered to be the guardian of their severely disabled child once they have reached adulthood.

If family needs exceed the volunteer capacity of H.A.L.O. CAN, we can provide a list of law firms that specialize in advocacy for children with complex neurological and physical conditions.

Families can contact H.A.L.O. Can through the administrator of their child’s pediatric facility or click HERE to send an email.  Legal advice is presently offered only in Massachusetts.
